Nature Discover Trail in Monheim am Rhein

Family adventure at eleven exciting stops along the way

The Nature Adventure Trail in Monheim am Rhein is a 2.7 km circular walking trail. Even little legs can manage that! The path leads in front of and behind the dike through the Rheinbogen Landscape Park, and is an exciting destination for families and nature lovers.

At eleven interactive stops along the way, children and adults can explore and learn interesting facts about the local flora and fauna. At stops 7 and 9, there are comfortable seating areas where you can take a break or enjoy a small picnic in the countryside.

The Nature Adventure Trail is a great way to experience nature with children and to teach them about the importance of nature conservation. In addition, the paved path is also suitable for walks, jogs, bike rides and other outdoor activities.

Stops 1 to 4: From bees to the displacement of the Rhine

What kind of edible wild herbs are these? What’s that croaking and buzzing in the wetland biotope? Where and how do wild bees live? Why has the Rhine changed its course? Families can playfully explore the answers to these and other questions at the first four stops.

Stops 5 to 8: Meadow orchards, pollarded willows, Highland cattle and hunting

Here, the path leads over the dike to the fruit puzzle at the meadow orchard. Once this is solved, the grazing Highland cattle are already waiting for their visitors in the nearby meadow. Right next door, it’s time to go hunting. With telescopes, the seventh stop invites visitors to search for red foxes, hares, rabbits, pheasants and partridges on the Rhine meadow. The next stop focuses on pollarded willows, their care and what you can make from their branches.

Stops 9 to 11: Farming, floors & views

Wheat, sugar beets, barley and rapeseed – stop 9 is all about farming in this bend of the Rhine. Afterwards, with the aid of a rotating cube game, visitors can learn all about natural floors and their inhabitants in the floodplain. And last but not least, there is a landscape frame, which directs the eye to the various structures of the Rhine floodplain and literally invites visitors to take a photo as a personal souvenir. Smile, please!
