Learning ships at the Monheim am Rhein jetty

The learning ships MS Wissenschaft and MS Experimenta are old inland cargo ships that have been converted into floating knowledge centers. On board, there are interactive exhibits, exciting films and workshops allowing visitors to explore the sciences and experiment. Visitors of all ages are encouraged to give free rein to their boundless curiosity and to touch and explore the exhibits.

The learning ships will stop in Monheim am Rhein in August 2024

The ships are traveling throughout Germany and will also be docking in Monheim am Rhein this summer.

MS Wissenschaft – a floating science center on the subject of freedom

The subject on board this ship is freedom. Freedom in the decisions we make, freedom in art, and how the word has been understood over the centuries. With an eye to the future, however, the effects that artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles and internet phenomena have on our understanding of freedom are also discussed.

Please touch!

MS Experimenta – a learning ship on the subject of sustainability

“You are science. You create knowledge” is the motto on board the MS Experimenta. At entertaining interactive exhibit stands, visitors of all ages can learn about how humans developed their, at times, curious characteristics, and test your own. Who is observant enough to play a multitasking game? And who has ever looked at a bone through a real microscope?

You will also see how science and technology influence our understanding of the world around us today and how they help us to shape our environment.

Three parts of a ship, one great experience

The 105-meter-long learning ship will be traveling throughout Germany from June to November 2024, opening its doors at 25 ports of call.  From August 2 to 6, it will be stopping at the Monheim jetty and offering three areas in the belly of the ship:

• In the learning ship exhibition, visitors of all ages can play and carry out experiments.

• In the laboratory area, supervised workshops will demonstrate experiments conducted by professionals in the fields of physics, chemistry and other sciences.

• Impressive films are shown in the “Mini Dome”, a 360-degree dome.
