Schürefest at Kradepohl 2026

In summer 2026, a special anniversary awaits the Altstadt-Funken: for the 20th time, the traditional Schürefest (historic “barn festival”, named after its origins in a farm barn) will be celebrated in Monheim am Rhein. What began in 1953 in the barn of the Rüttgers family has since become an integral part of the city’s cultural life. Since 1967,  with one exception in 1978, the festival has been held every four years at the historic Kradepohl, where the Monheimer Altstadt-Funken were founded in 1928.

This year, the Schürefest takes place from August 27 to 30: four days filled with music, great entertainment, delicious food and refreshing drinks. Yet it is far more than just a summer festival: It represents living tradition, the cheerful spirit of the Rhineland, and an important part of Monheim am Rhein’s local identity. The celebrations take place in a large festival marquee specially erected for the occasion, as well as in the adjoining beer garden.

Program
Thursday kicks off the festivities with a musical after-work evening. Friday centres on the official tapping of the first beer keg, the election of “Miss Kradepohl” and live music. On Saturday, younger guests in particular can look forward to a colourful children’s afternoon, before two bands take the stage in the evening to keep the atmosphere lively. Sunday begins on a reflective note with an ecumenical church service and concludes with an open-air concert featuring several brass bands.

The Monheimer Altstadt-Funken can look back on almost 100 years of club history. Founded with the aim of preserving Rhineland carnival traditions and local customs, the association has since become a well-established presence far beyond the city’s borders.
