Goose Melody

Five geese shine like gold in the evening autumn sun in the Rheinbogen Landscape Park. You’re almost convinced that you can hear them cackling. The lifelike bronze sculptures, created by sculptor Saman Hidayat in honor of Monheim’s heraldic animal, have been dancing between the water playground and the old part of town since November 2021.

The sculpture is intended to remind people of Monheim am Rhein’s past as a village and, along with the Scream for Freedom, is already the second work by the artist that can be seen in the city.

About the artist

The Kurdish sculptor Saman Hidayat comes from Iraq and came to Germany with his wife in 2015 in search of safety. In 2018, he gave the city and the people of Monheim his work Scream for Freedom – a gift made out of gratitude for having found a new home in Monheim am Rhein.

With the group of statues called "Goose Melody," Hidayat once again shows his attachment to the city. "For me, geese are friendly animals, and friendly people live in Monheim am Rhein."
